Preparing
for an Interview / The
Telephone Interview
THE PERSONAL INTERVIEW
Remember: Your goal is to get a job offer so make your
first impression a good one!
Dress conservatively
Arrive about 20 minutes early to check your appearance.
Bring breath spray (no mints)!
Bring a handkerchief or napkin - No wet clammy hands
for handshake!
Take copies of your resume, a notepad, and pencil
to note the names & titles of your interviewers.
Greet the interviewer formally.
Fill out the company's application form completely
- do not write "See Resume".
On salary write "open".
During the Interview:
Sit up straight, looking poised and alert body language
is important - ask your recruiter about mirroring.
Smile whenever you meet a new interviewer .
Maintain eye contact.
Let the interviewer talk.
Be tactful .
Ask the interviewer about his/her background.
Be honest - it all comes out in the wash!
Before you Leave:
Ask for the job - let the interviewer know you're
interested.
Let the interviewer bring up compensation.
Get business cards from each interviewer.
Thank interviewers for their time and interest.
Send thank you notes, again expressing your interest
in the job.
Follow up with your recruiter immediately.
